Session 1 Spring time

  • Identify seasonal weather patterns in the United Kingdom.
  • Use globes to identify the UK and the equator.

Lesson Planning

Investigate some of the features of Spring and make a spring collage picture in the style of Guiseppe Arcimboldo.

To create a spring collage using colour, pattern and shape.
To discuss features of spring and seasonal change around the world.

Investigate some of the features of Summer. Create a beach scene based on the painting ‘Southwold’ by Stanley Spencer.

Investigate some of the features of Autumn. Create an observational drawing of an Autumn scene based on the painting ‘Autumn Leaves’ by John Everrett Millais.

To create observational drawings using different techniques and compare these to the painting ‘Autumn Leaves’.
To discuss the features of autumn.

Children will:

  • Create an observational drawing of an autumn scene.

Session 4 Winter shapes

Objectives

  • Use basic geographical vocabulary to refer to key human features (e.g. factory, town, harbour).
  • Use maps to locate the UK.

Lesson Planning

Investigate some of the features of Winter. Use paint and potato printing to create a version of the painting ‘Waterloo Bridge’ by Monet.

Teaching Outcomes
To create own versions of the painting ‘Waterloo Bridge’ by Monet.
To look at the real Waterloo Bridge and describe its features.

Children will:

  • Create own versions of ‘Waterloo Bridge’ by Claude Monet.
  • Talk about and use colours, patterns and shapes.
  • Use Google Earth to locate Waterloo Bridge and describe its features.

You Will Need

  • Black A3 sugar paper
  • Masking tape
  • Colour-mixing palettes
  • Potatoes cut in half, with half of each cut into an arch shape
  • Vivaldi’s ‘Winter’.

Session 5 Evaluating art

  • Talk about the work of a range of artists, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work

Describe your thoughts and feelings about your own and other’s work. Look for meanings within pieces of work. Hold an art exhibition.
