World Health Day

Learn how to keep your body and mind healthy on World Heath Day under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other related organisations every 7th of April.

Session 1 Healthy Teeth

Objectives

Science

  • Practical scientific methods, processes and skills: Asking simple questions and recognizing that they can be answered in different ways
  • Observing closely, using simple equipment
  • Performing simple tests
  • Identifying and classifying
  • Using their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions
  • Gathering and recording data to help in answering questions.
  • Describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene.

English

  • Drama and role-play can contribute to the quality of pupils’ writing by providing opportunities for pupils to develop & order their ideas through playing roles/ improvising scenes in various settings.
  • Listening to, discussing and expressing views about a wide range of non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently
  • Being introduced to non-fiction books that are structured in different ways.
  • Discussing and clarifying the meanings of words, linking new meanings to known vocabulary.
  • Write sentences by: saying out loud what they are going to write about; composing a sentence orally before writing it.
  • Read aloud their writing clearly enough to be heard by their peers and the teacher.

Lesson Planning

Today we are going to find out about keeping teeth healthy.

Children will:

  • Find out facts about their teeth: how many teeth humans have; the names and the functions of teeth.
  • Investigate how to care for teeth.
  • Create singing rhyme to help establish and remember a good oral hygiene routine.

Lesson Planning

Today we are going to find out about keeping our bodies fit and healthy.

Children will:

  • Create a series of practical ideas for keeping fit; fitness trail; challenges; gardening fun; making kites to fly.

Lesson Planning

Our focus today is Healthy Eating.

Children will:

  • Learn about the different food groups and the importance of eating a well-balanced diet.
  • Develop a simple understanding of the different ways different kinds of food help our bodies to grow and develop.
  • Use different kitchen tools to produce picnic food.

Session 5 Healthy Minds

Lesson Planning

Find out some important ways to look after mental health as well as physical health.

Children will:

  • Begin to understand the importance of our own and other people’s mental health.
  • Build self-esteem.

Session 6 Conclusion

Objectives

English

Lesson Planning

Look at everything we have learnt about being healthy and select one key piece of advice for healthy living to write on a bunting flag .

Children will:

  • Consolidate their learning re being healthy.
  • Select and write advice for Mr Couch Potato.
